Thank You For The Music

Laser558 was renowned for playing more music than any other radio station, in the UK and Europe.  Needletime restrictions in the UK, prevented the local ILR stations in the southern counties and London, competeing with Laser, from when it came on air in May 1984 - until it went off air on Noveber 5th 1985.

Laser558 used several on air straplines, such as:  "Your Never More Than A Minute Away From Music." or "Your Never More Than 60 Seconds Away From Music".

Later in Lasers life - and until it left the air in late 1985,, it used the following:

"Europes Hit Music Station".

Laser558's tight format and rotation of songs, enabled listeners to hear the latest chart songs, recent hits and oldies.

Regular artists heard on Laser558 would have included:

Duran Duran, Madonna, Dire Starights

Michael Jackson, Cyndi Lauper, Nick Kershaw, Thompson Twins, Frankie Goes To Hollywood,

Howard Jones, Stevie Nicks, Dead Or Alive, ZZ-Top and many many more.

Laser558's main sign on and sign off announcments, included the ABBA song: Thank You For The Music.

This song is now attributed to the image and constant diet of music of Laser558
